I thought it was The Boyfriend, but it wasn't. It was one of the people I work with. To maintain her anonymity, I shall call her: Kayley.
Kayley is delightful. She's a lot younger than me; 21. I haven't been that age for 20 years. She's also what I would call ditsy-verging-on-mad.
She was BBM-ing me (BlackBerry Messenger - Oh, I'm quite with it when it comes to technology now days. Bloody hell, I sound like my mother) to ask if we get paid tomorrow. Now, having known her for just a few weeks, I would say that's fairly typical Kayley.
It was SHE who told ME that we get paid (early) on 20th, this month. She'd heard it from the boss, apparently, but she'd forgotten, so was asking me. I could only tell her what she'd already told me. So we didn't get very far.
Kayley is a breath of fresh air at 5am.
When my alarm goes off at 4am, for about 5 seconds, I wish I was dead. Getting up at that time, in the cold - and sometimes having to de-ice the car - is bloody grim, I can tell you. I stumble around in the near-dark, getting dressed as quickly as possible, hoping to goodness that the de-icer is where I left it (I use The Boyfriend's car as it's more economical but as he's a community psychiatric nurse, he's out and about in his car - in proper waking hours - a lot and MOVES the de-icer... ARGHHHH).
So anything pre-5am is on dodgy ground at this time of year. But once at work, and with Kayley to keep me amused, I really enjoy being out so early. We have a good laugh and a gossip (about the others) and the time really flies. If it wasn't for Kayley, then I wouldn't enjoy it half as much.
Thank you, Kayley, for being ditsy-verging-on-mad. It suits you.
PS. Let's hope we DO get paid tomorrow!

I do like ditsy-vergy-on-mad people - I definitely wouldn't like getting up at 4am! Therefore respect Kit, respect!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas too!
Anna :o]
Hee hee. Thanks, Anna.
ReplyDeleteAnd Merry Christmas to you, too :)
How do you do it? Work is bad enough without having to get up at 4 to do it. Btw your friend ought to be a pop star - all the best ones are completely bonkers.
ReplyDeleteMartin ~ It's part-time and I don't plan to do it forever, plus, I really enjoy it ONCE I'm there. If it were full-time and I was doing it forever there's no way I could maintain a 4am start!
ReplyDeleteI shall tell her what you said. I think she'd agree :D
It must be awful to work with colleagues you don't get on with ( I should know, I've worked with a few now and again), so good job there are Kayleys around. Even so, I still take my hat off to you for 4am starts!!!!
ReplyDeleteAddy ~ I'm starting to think I'm a bit of a hero!
ReplyDeleteI had a dream last night that I'd forgotten to put 'ice cream' in the Toblerone Cocktail recipe and I did. In case you are naughty enough to try it, add a few big scoops of vanilla ice cream!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!
Denise
Denise ~ I bought Toblerone today. Oh, yes!
